some weeks—as the guest of Mr. and

Mrs. Joseph E. Davies. At the time

Mr. Davies, who is now our Ambas

sador to Brussels, was a local attor

ney and among other things, counsel

to the President of the Dominican

Republic—that was Mme. Trujillo's

husband.

Now Mr. Trujillo has another wife

and so has Mr. Davies, but there is

still a close friendship between the

two families. Mrs. Aldace Walker, a

daughter of Mr. Davies, spent some

weeks in Trujillo City and was

thrilled with the charm of the place.

Of course she stayed at the Presi

dential Palace, and that does make

a trip just a little different.

MINISTER RETURNING

Today the Minister of the Domini

can Republic, Andres Pastoriza, will

return from New York where he has

been to speed his wife and family on

their way to Tru

jillo City—the

Minister himself

forgets some

times, and speaks

of Santo Domingo

City, but hastily

corrects h i mself.

And on his return

Mr. Pastoriza will

begin to make

plans for an im

minent visit of

the erstwhile

President.

Just when Mr.

Pastoriza

Trujillo will come to this country Is

not yet known, but it win be some

time shortly after his retirement. He

has never been here and is prob

ably agog at the thrilling tales his

wife and Ministers have brought back

to him. So Mr. Pastoriza is prepar

ing to "give him the works”; take

him thru the country on a coast-to

coast tour; show him how things

are run in our modest little republic.

Meantime down in the Dominican

Republic there is none of the up

roar that would be attendant to the

emphatic retirement of our Chief
