SummaryResumen

A letter to the editor of the *New-York Tribune* alleges that the seizure of the steamer *Telegrafo* for piracy was instigated by the United States Government to promote the annexation of Santo Domingo. The writer notes that British courts confirmed a jury award of £18,000 in indemnity to the vessel's owners, Mr. George A. Philips and Philips Collins, for the illegal seizure and sale. Additionally, the excerpt details that the *Telegrafo* was chartered in St. Thomas in early 1869 by Dominican exiles, initially under the American flag, before being reflagged as British at Inagua to operate against the Dominican usurper Baez.
