A treaty of peace between the insur
gent generals at Monte Cristi and the
government was signed Wednesday last
week on board the American cruiser
Yankee, says a dispatch from San
Domingo. Monte Cristi is now in
the hands of the constitutional govern
ment forces. Emiliano Tejets. minister of
foreign affairs, said to the Associated
Press Wednesday: “I attribute the prompt
collapse of the insurrection to the vigor
of the government’s military operations,
to the financial modus v.vcudi which re
strained the revolutionists from seizing
the custom-houses, and tu the fact that
the government is a constitutional one.”
The Dominican government in receiving
the surrender of Monte Cristi permitted
the revolutionary governor. Gen Arias,
to depart for Porto Rico, and granted gen
eral amnesty to the other revolutionists.
