SummaryResumen
The *Birmingham age-herald* reported that the inauguration of President General Horacio Vasquez ended more than eight years of Dominican struggle to regain national sovereignty following the 1916 military takeover. The report credited persistent Dominican protests and an advocacy campaign started in 1920 by former U.S. Minister Horace G. Knowles with leading to a Senate inquiry and subsequent withdrawal pact. It noted that full sovereignty was restored with the March 15 election, while transports were actively evacuating the remaining 1,800 American marines.
