The *New-York Tribune* reported that the State Department was investigating reports that the Dominican government had terminated its agreement with the San Domingo Improvement Company and taken direct charge of its customs revenues. The Dominican action reportedly followed protests by Belgian bondholders against the American syndicate's administration of the debt. Legal representatives of the Improvement Company conferred with State Department officials in Washington regarding the alleged repudiation while awaiting official dispatches from the American consul-general in Santo Domingo.
