SummaryResumen

Reports from St. Thomas say the Dominican minister of foreign affairs has left San Domingo for Washington to try to arrange a United States protectorate over the republic, while Jiminez's forces continue bombarding the capital. A Puerto Plata report adds that seven hundred government soldiers are marching on San Domingo, the rebel stronghold, in what is expected to be the most important battle of the Jiminez revolution, and gives details of the recent recapture of Puerto Plata, where the commander of an American vessel in the harbor practically managed the battle within a fighting zone fixed by the American and British warship commanders.
