SummaryResumen

Based on the provided excerpt, Spanish forces attempting to capture St. Christabal were harassed by Dominican guerrillas and driven back in confusion at the river Jaina with a loss of 200 casualties. The Dominicans also captured supplies, rifles, ammunition, a field piece, and a cannon at Santa Anna's supply depot, and defeated the Spaniards in a battle at Purata Plata on December 20th. Consequently, the Spaniards are reportedly confined only to the ground they stand upon, prompting a resume in *The Standard* to suggest that Spain should withdraw from the contest.
