SummaryResumen

The Freeman reported that Dominican insurgents fired upon the gunboat *Machias* before rebel leaders boarded the vessel to assure American non-combatant safety. The paper noted that four simultaneous insurrections were underway while Minister Sullivan returned to Washington, prompting anxiety over the United States' obligations under its treaty semi-protectorate. With Collector Vick resigned, the State Department considered dispatching an impartial emissary to avert full military intervention while maintaining naval vessels in Dominican waters.

With four separate revolutions raging

is causing grave anxiety on the part of

the Washington government which is

Official opinion here is slowly crystalliz

powerful outside influence and probably

that of the United States can these cha

Mr. Vick, the American collector of

The State Department is reluctant to

Keep your eye on The Freeman.
