SummaryResumen
The *Evening Star* reported that Dominican Minister Andrés Pastoriza announced President Trujillo would not seek reelection, instead endorsing Dr. Jacinto B. Peynado for president and Dr. Manuel de Jesús Troncoso de la Concha for vice president, though Trujillo remained ready to serve if needed. The announcement came amid ongoing diplomatic friction with Haiti, which alleged that over 12,000 Haitians were massacred on Dominican soil. Dominican officials denied the accusations, attributing the reports to political enemies and citing economic strain caused by illegal Haitian migration.

The Minister's statement made no

Haitian government, through its Le

12,000 Haitians were "massacred” on
Dominican soil.
Dominican authorities have denied
these assertions, charging in reply
that many Haitians illegally entered
the Dominican Republic, aggravating
economic conditions there. Dom

of the alleged “massacres" were spread
by enemies of the present regime for
political purposes.
