SummaryResumen
The *Busy Bee* reported that President Ulises Heureaux approved a commercial reciprocity treaty with the United States modeled on the earlier convention with Brazil. In exchange for duty-free access to the American market for Dominican sugar, molasses, coffee, cocoa, and hides, the Dominican Republic established a free list for machinery, tools, and foodstuffs, along with a 25 percent tariff reduction on items like meats, lumber, and cotton textiles. The treaty aimed to expand United States trade, which had lagged behind Dominican exports.
