A treaty between St. Domingo and Great Britain has been signed, to endure for ten years, which permits the right of search for the prevention of the slave trade. Dominican vessels suspected of being engaged in the traffic may be searched by British cruisers, and, if found with slaves on board, or equipped for the trade, they are to be sent to the nearest Dominican port for adjudication by the Dominican authorities. The treaty also contains a provision for the mutual surrender of criminals.
