SummaryResumen

This profile of Heureaux recounts how he walked among men who had been swearing to take his life, told them they were not nearly so anxious for his life as they believed, and let them go free without taking any action. It describes his polished manner and entertaining conversation, his three-story palace in Santo Domingo covering a block, and the keen slight he felt because the aristocratic Dominicans refused to admit him to their social circles on account of his blood.
