SummaryResumen
The *Weekly Union* reported that a boat crew from the American schooner *Henry Crosby* was fired upon by Dominican troops while approaching the beach near Azua, resulting in severe wounds to the first officer and the fatal shooting of a sailor. The captain reached Azua to lodge an official protest with the United States Consul General, who transmitted the findings to the State Department.

cer and four sailors got into the boat and
pulled for the land. When about 300 yards
out a file of soldiers clad in the uniform of
thke Dominican army, came ruunning down
to the beach. When they reached the
water’s edge the men drew up in lige and,
levellipg their carbines at the men in the
Crosby’s small boat, fired.
One of the sallors threw up hls hands
and fell at the feet of his companions fatal-
Jy wounded. Theothers paused ia sar
prise and affright; when suddenly another
volley was fired from the shore. By this
the first officer was shot in the shoulder.
Then the boat was put about and turned
toward the schooner. The sallors rowed
for their lives. The wounded men. were
taken aboard the vessel.
The Crosby’s captain did not know what
to make of such barbarous and unwar
ranted treatment. He holsted sail, and
after a time reackhed the port of Azua.
From there he reported the outrage to the
new United States cossul general at San
Domingo city. At the latters request the
full detalls ot the shooting were written
out by the captain and the report has been
forwarded to Washington. The letter
came by the George W. Clyde, aad will
proll:ably reach the state department to
night.
No information or satisfastion was given
to the American skipper by the Dominican
authorities. Itis supposed, however, that
the soldlers thought the American sallors
were a band of conepirators who Intended
to overthrow the government of President
Heureaux.
