Duties to Be Paid in Gold.

Puertoi Plata, via Haiti, Sept. S.—

The provisional government has de

creed that all duties shall be paid in

gold or Dominican silver at the rate

of six silver dollars for one dollar in

The Enfranchisement of Women.

Melbourne, Victoria, Sept. 8.—The

legislative council of the colony of Vic

toria rejected the bill for the enfran

chisement of women. A similar meas

ure became law in the colony of West

Australia a fortnight ago.

Refuse to Pay New Taxes.

Barcelona, Sept. 8.—Twelve thousand

manufacturers have refused to pay- the

new taxes. Many land-owners have de

cided to take similar action.
