About two months ago the Haytian Government pur-

chased of the United States the steam sloop-of-war Al-

gonquin, Ample time was giyen the purchasers to ex-

amine the vessel jand satisfy themselves that she was

worth the price they were asked to pay. Last week the

Haytian Minister here complained to the Executive that

the ship was uot what she was represented to be, and

that ber boilers and much of her machinery were unit

for use; the Secretory of the Navy has therefore or-

dered that a board of naval officers shall immediately

convene and give the vessel a four days’ trial trip in

New-York Bay and Lovg Island Sound. It will be re-

membered that the Algonquin was the vessel on which

the Dickenson machiery was placed for trial against the

[sherwood machinery on the Winooski about four years

ago.

The Committea selected by Commissioner Delano to

decide upon a stamp to be adopted Ly the Bureau for the

cancellation of Revenue stamps, have held one meeting

and examined the various devices presented, Another

meeting will be held on Monday next, and it is expected

the Committee will then decide and submit their report

to the Commissioner.
