Rosario, she was escorted to

the dining room and person

her hostess.

First Large Party

“I’m glad I didn't eat at

my own party,” she told

Miss del Rosario as she sa

The party was the first

large one given by the am

bassador since he presented

his credentials on June 1. It

celebrated the 100th anni

of Dominican Independence

after a turbulent 42-year

period during which it twice

gained and lost its freedom.

Asked about more recent

turbulent events and whether

he thought the recent inva

sion of Haiti by a group of

its own exiles would lead to

overthow of Dictator Fran

cois Duvalier’s government,

the ambassador was smiling

ly noncommital. “I hope the

problem can be solved

through the OAS," he said.

In the receiving line with

the ambassador and his sis

Fiallos' beautiful daughter,

Atala, and her Cuban-born

cousin. Miss Sylvia Cervino,

on the back terrace where

many guests enjoyed the

early cool of the evening and

a view of the back garden.

But she believes that time

is of the essense.

"The situation Is so tense

and so desperate that you

have to make sacrifices now

if you hope to live a normal

life In the future,” she said

earnestly.

Senator Jardlm, who held

a press conference here last

Monday, has been having
