lished for the summer at Castel Gandolfo, and that

is all thers will be to It.

Prince of Udine is the somewhat poetic title

borne by the scion of the reigning house of Italy

who is due here this week on board the Italian

cruiser Calabria, which for several weeks past has

been in Santo Domingan and Haytian waters, look

ing after Italian interests. The prince, who, be

sides being created Prince of Udine last year,

was likewise invested with the predicate of ‘royal

highness,” to which he would not otherwise have

been entitled, will attain his twenty-first birthday

a fortnight hence, i# a sub-lieutenant of the navy,

and the eldest of the five children of the Duke and

Duchess of Genoa. The Duke of Genoa is the only

brother of Queen Marguerite, and her father, the

late Prince Ferdinand, Duke of Genoa, was ga

vounger brother of old King Victor Emmanuel.

The present Duke of Genoa has been in this coun

try on several occasions, notably at the time of

the Centennial in 1876, in connection with his naval

duties, left an agreeable impression, due in part

to his frank, sallor-like manners, and to his per

fect English, acquired while at schopl at Harrow,

near London, and is now the ranking admiral of tha

Italian Navy. The Duchess of Genoa is a Bavarian

princess, and the only one in Europe whose hair is

absolutely red. There is an abundance af it, and

she has the wonderfully beautiful complexion that

usually goes therewith. Bhe excels in all athletic

exercises, ewims and dives like a fish, is wonder.
