the direction of General Oscar, who was governor

general of Port Au Prince under Guillaume. The

wholesale execution of the political prisoners was the

cause of the rebellion which yesterday resulted in a

new figure guiding the ship of state. The feeling

against Guillaume and his henchmen, is intense and

Violence may be expected before the day is over. The

LOS ANGELES. July 28.—Secre

tary of State Robert Lansing has

asked Wiley Jones. Attorney-General

for Arizona for a further reprieve of

the five Mexicans who are awaiting

the death penalty in that state. On

account of the acute nature of the re_

lations between the United States and

Mexico, Bryan asked for a reprieve

for the murderers, some time ago, and

his request was granted.

The reprieve given by Governor

Hunt on Bryan’s request expires next

Friday, and the State Department is

asking for the same thing at this time

on similar reasons. Jones replied to

Lansing practically refusing to com

ply with his request, saying, “The

United States has no right to inter

fere.” Unless a further reprieve is

granted the men will be hung at

Florence the day after tomorrow.
