President Roosevelt has dispatched

a message of good will to President

Stenlo Vincent of Haiti in connection

with the withdrawal of Marines from

that island republic. The message,

made public by the State Department

yesterday, said:

"I am deeply appreciative of your

excellency’s message on the occasion

of the withdrawal of the American

forces from Haiti. The same spirit of

friendship which was made manifest

yesterday must always mark the rela

I can assure you of the full co-op

eration of this Government to that

end.

"I send you my personal greetings

and my sincere wishes for the great

est measure of prosperity and happi

Be Pressing Negotiations

in District.

Declaring the Government has no

intention of abandoning or sidetrack

ing its low-cost housing and slum

clearance activities, Public Works

Administrator Ickes has just issued a

statement reviewing what has been

done and summarizing the program

for the near future.

While no direct mention of the Dis

trict of Columbia was made in the

statement, it is known that for some

time P. W. A. officials have been at

tempting to acquire sites for a low

cost housing program here. Agents

have been trying to obtain sites by

negotiation, and it is understood that

if negotiations are not successful, con

demnation proceedings may be under

taken.

The housing division, the statement

said, has been completely reorganized
