Pocahontas County to sit in a West

Virginia legislature.

Samuel A. McCarty was a son.

He was a Union soldier. He lives in

Vermont but i9 visiting in this coun

tiie Rev. Tom.

A few years ago we all read of the

subduing of the province of Haiti by

tiie United States marines, and es

pecially of the exploits of a great

hero, Vincent McCarty, but I had

never connected him in my mind

with Pocahontas county. But never

theless this Vincent McCarty is the

fighting son of the Rev. Tom, and

Mincent McCarty was born in Poca

hontas County, so mark up his name

in the local hall of fame, as tiie fight

ing McCarty from the old sod

Vincent was the third son in tiie

minister's family, and as so often

happens in the sober and righteous

lives of the anointed, the children

that go forth from a manse are
