Landslide Victory in

Haitian Elections

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti

(UP) Mounting returns indicat

ed today a landslide victory for

Dr. Francois DuVallier in Haiti’s

presidential elections last Sunday.

They also spurred charges of

fraud by his major opponent.

Louis DeJoie, coupled with the

warning that the Haitian people

“will not accept the rigged elec

tion” of DuVallier.

DeJoie accused the ruling mili

tary junta of rigging the returns

which showed DuVallier polling

overwhelming pluralities in areas

regarded as DeJoie strongholds.

Returns from the town of Cab

aret, near Port Au Prince, showed

nearly 13,000 votes for DuVallier

and only five for DeJoie.

Official returns from the island

of La Gonave gave DuVallier 17,-

568 votes to 430 for DeJoie. De-

Joie asserted the 1950 census

showed less than 14,000 eligible

voters on the island.
