Cuba and Haiti were officially repre

of agriculture.

We would doubtless feel pretty

proud to be flown into such elegant

surroundings if we were a prize

steer or a portly pork. We

doubt that even a sheep could feel

sheepish about it.

R. S. V. P.

Deszo Fonagy, a battered Hun

garian freedom-fighter and a repre

sentative of the underground revo

lutionary parliment, testified the

other day before a Senate Internal

Security subcommittee. Unless

there is help soon from the UN or

from the West, he said, the patriots

will strike again. The result will

be "the extermination of the Hun

garian people or the exit of the

Russians from Hungary."

Mr. Fonagy's calm announce

ment that the Hungarians will

"blow everything up so as to put

Hungary in such chaos that the

Russ'ans will have to leave" may

cause the UN to vote an 11th reso

lution condemning Soviet aggres

sion. Or it might suggest to Secre

tary Dulles that he postpone that

"serious consideration" of econom

ic sanctions against Israel while

he decides what our attitude should

be when the Red tanks roll again

in Hungary. The last act curtain

will rise, Mr. Fonagy thinks, in the

spring. Might we have a "Hun

garian Doctrine" by then?
