The Baltimore »ml Ohio May Declare a

Scrip Dividend Soon.

Hai.timouk, Mi>., March 21.—The

management of the Haiti more ami Ohio

Company feel proud of the results of the

business of the road for the lirst five

months of the fiscal year. An increase

of 51.000,000 iii net earnings in live

months Is most encouraging, and a' the

large traffic of the year promises to con

tinue, tlie earnings of the road will

probaby be such as will justify the

declaration of some kind of a dividend.

The Baltimore and Ohio Company is

making such extensive improvements

and repairs that it is in need of large

sums of money, for w hich reason cash

dividends are scarcely to he expected,

but it is probable that a scrip dividend

may be declared later on.

It is an open secret that the Balti

more and Ohio company anticipate mak

ing large expenditures in cxtentlous,

betterments and repairs, and it is inti

mated that the proposition will 1m-made

to raise such funds by the issue of capi

tal stuck. The Pennsylvania railroad

has purchased 'his policy for years,

and it would have been better, it is

thought by those in authority, had the

Baltimore and Ohio adopted the same

policy instead of issuing and indorsing

bonds. If the new stock is offered it is

not probable that the present holders or

any large number of them would avail

themselves of an option to subscribe
