SummaryResumen
The New-York Tribune reported on the background of revolutionary operative Giordani, who had previously created confusion among shippers by setting up an unauthorized rival Dominican consulate in New York until the State Department intervened. Giordani had also operated as an unsuccessful lobbyist opposing the Dominican treaty and was a prominent supporter of former Dominican President Juan Isidro Jimenez. His activities and arrest were compared to the earlier case of Captain Boynton involving revolutionary currency schemes.

counter instructions to ex orters. The existence
of the two consulates for the same republic was
a source of great annoyance to shippers, but
also a source of considerable amusement to the
general public.
Finally, however, the State Department at
Washington settled things by refusing to recog
nize Giordani and he was deprived of the en
jovment of the fat fees he had expected.
Giordani's activity in Dominican politics also
led him into the ways of the lobby. He repre

was opposed to the Dominican treaty with the
United States and in his influential way consti
tuted himself a lobby of one to work agahst the
measure in Washington and New York, but, of
course, without success.

President of Santo Domingo, and always a ready

The prisoner is a man of about fifty years ot
age, of short stature, and with his light colored
beard looks more like a Frenchman than a na

The case of Giordani is analogous to the chi
merical plan charged a year or so ago against
Captain Boynten, the original of Richard Hard
ing Davis's “Soldier of Fortune” hero. Captain
Boynton was arrested by Secret Service officials
charged with counterfeiting Venezuelan money.
He declared that this money also was to be used
for revolutionary purposes.
It was during the Jiminez-Morales revolution
