SummaryResumen

Government troops drove rebels out of Cape Ilaylien City after fighting that left thirty men killed and wounded, while General Parisien escaped to Monte Christo on Dominican territory and general uneasiness paralyzed business throughout the Republic. In San Domingo, Congress directed the Executive to propose the free exchange of tobacco and sugar for United States products, and southern sugar cultivation significantly increased with an estimated crop of 10,000 hogsheads.
