SummaryResumen

Writing from Santiago de los Caballeros on June 17, the correspondent says Santo Domingo has had some two hundred revolutions within sixty years of independence and that their battles were long fought with little bloodshed, but that this is no longer the rule. He asserts that more people have been killed in the present revolution than in the war with Spain forty years ago, and gives eyewitness accounts of the battle at Puerto Plata last January, where soldiers on both sides fired their guns off as fast as they could load until their ammunition was gone, and then ran.
