SummaryResumen

The New-York Tribune reported on Caribbean and Central American developments, noting U.S. naval patrols in Honduras and widespread Dominican discontent over the newly approved U.S. treaty. Dominican citizens reportedly feared the United States was turning their debt-burdened republic into a fief, preferring multiple foreign creditors over a single American power. Due to this popular backlash, expectations grew that the Dominican Congress might reject the treaty.
