SummaryResumen
The *New-York Tribune* reported that the besieged Dominican provisional government was unable to raise a $20,000 loan for city defense, leaving the capital vulnerable to insurgent assault and street fighting. With the gunboat *Newport* remaining as the only foreign warship in port, concerns grew over the safety of foreign residents. Meanwhile, insurgent leader Juan Isidro Jimenes scored a decisive victory at Moca against 500 government troops under General Ramón Cáceres, who was wounded, clearing the path for an advance on Santo Domingo.
